Super Arts!

We're always happy to bring you news from one of Germany's finest independent Classical Music labels, Arts. Almost each month, we receive a kind mail by Andrea Hentschke, product manager at Arts Music, informing us of their latest releases. This time, though, she had a very special announcement: Afte a lenghty period of experimentation and trying the DVD-Audio, the company has decided to switch over to SACD manufacturing, offering customers the excellent musical quality they have come to expect on what is probably the best digital medium out there. Which makes perfect sense, considering Arts has made a name for themselves as an audiophile label anyway. To accompany this move, two albums on this format have been added to the catalogue:

Paving the way is a spectacular Double SACD set of Arcangelo Corellis Sonatas for Violin and basso continuo. The Accademia Bizantina is in great form here and Stefano Montenari has taken up the role of soloist. Montenari has been fascinated by chamber music for almost all of his life and has made it his quest to present the music in its purest form. His co-operations with some of the finest artists and  ensembles around, such as Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques have firmly established him as one of the leaders of the pack. Expect this to be a classic soon.

And then there's the recording of Shostakovich's eleventh Symphony. Arts makes the correct observation that this is actually a perfect example of the German Symphonic School, even though it snatched up the Lenin-award at the time. Conducting the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano is Oleg Caetani - a perfect match between a truly international conductor and an orchestra, which has worked with Ricardo Muti and soloists such as Martha Argerich. This release is one in a series of all Shostakovich-symphonies - a project that Arts started in 2003.

Apart from these two SACD jems, there are a few "regular" discs, which we will present in another article soon. If you can't wait, then just move over to the Arts-homepage and check out things for yourself.
