Christmas is Coming

For all of you who thought there was still plenty of time to look around for nice gifts or to at least wait for the first snow flakes to fall - welcome to the real world! With the release of an excellent rendition of Bach's "Christmas Oratory", ARTS Music has just single-handedly opened the gift-season.

The disc features ensemble "I Barocchisti" and conductor Diego Fasolis. Both are known to be masters of their trade: While "I Barocchisti", led by famed violinist Duilio Galfetti, is continuing the legacy of the Society Cameristica di Lugano in combinations of between 6 and 26 instrumentalists, have raised attention by their distint "fiery" performance style. And Fasolis meanwhile, has succeded both as a maestro and a composer and a friend of early music practice. This should be the right crew for a work that was first forgotten for 100 years, before being rediscovered and put to shame: Bach actually used a lot lot of previously written music for this one and merely assembled the piece in a new combination for full effect. While this was fine during his lifetime, the 20th Century considered "Parody" to be "Plagiarism" and rejected the work. Which is to say: Some intellectuals and progressive forces did -The Oratory has never disappeared from the Christmas calendar and has become one of Bach's most popular works.

As always with ARTS, expect nothing less than first class quality. We really couldn't think of a more appropriate and stylish present. So now, if you happened to be Santa, you know what you would have to do...
