David Tibet: Announces Roadburn Line-Up

David Tibet of Current 93 has provided details on the program of the final night of the Roadburn Festival, which he has been asked to curate. "I am delighted and ecstatic to announce the full line-up of the artists playing at the day I was invited to curate at the Roadburn”, David Tibet exclaimed, “Appearing at the show will be: ÆTHENOR, BABY DEE, CURRENT 93 RICKIE LEE JONES, and SKITLIV." All projects appear to have been first choice for Tibet, with the sole exception of Skitliv, a new project by Mayhem vocalist Maniac and Shining's front man Niklas Kvarforth on guitar and backing vocals, which filled in the void left by OM – who had to pull out after their drummer Chris Hakius left the band. To Skitliv frontman Maniac, the request to appear at the Roadburn was an extremely pleasant surprise: “I can't even begin to describe what taking part in David Tibet's special day at the Roadburn Festival means to me. I can genuinely say that I have admired David and Current 93 for many, many years, and the idea of working with them has been a long held dream. (...) Performing in that line up will be an honour. Watching them perform will be one of my life's great pleasures."

The other projects to appear on Sunday, 20th of April at the Roadburn in Tilburg, the Netherlands, involve some high-calliber artists from the most diverse corners of the experimental universe. Aethenor is one of the many projects by Stephen O'Malley of SUNN O))), while the hard-to-categorise Baby Dee has been one of David Tibet’s favourite acts for some time: “I was introduced to Baby Dee's world and work some years ago by Antony. Dee and I became friends, and she started working with, and playing in, Current 93. My label Durtro released her first two albums, as well as a recent compilation, and her new album, "Safe Inside The Day' is just out on Drag City. (...) I love Baby Dee's music more than I can say. I think that you will too."

The appearance of Rickie Lee Jones is, of course, easily the most remarkable feat of the line-up. “Rickie Lee Jones is an artist of profound lyrical and musical power, and her album "The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard" easily ranks as one of my favourite albums ever”, according to Tibet, “Returning to her earlier albums in 2007 after hearing "Sermon...", after a hiatus of almost 25 years, I was mesmerised by the stark beauty of her work, and I determined to invite her to the day I am curating at Roadburn, eager to have her perform to audiences who may never have been lucky enough to come across her music before.”

Needless to say, Current 93 will also be performing at the Roadburn, further enriched by a set from Belgian drone master Fear Falls Burning.
