Canadian two-piece Najda are about to debark on a North American tour in support of their soon-to-be released album “Skin turns to Glass". Their schedule will take them from the “Under the Snow Festival” in Montreal to the SXSW in Austin, Texas and to a final concert in Chicago. All in all, Nadja will be touring for the full month of March and perform in a total of 14 cities. Venues will include sizeable performance halls, as well as in-store gigs at some of the places which have supported their career from the very first hour (including legendary San Francisco-based store Aquarius). “Skin turns to Glass”, to be published by New York’s The End Records, is yet another re-release for Nadja’s Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff, who have long sold out all of their back catalogue. This time, however, it comes with a twist: All the songs from the original release on Belgium’s Nothingness Records, were completely performed anew in Baker’s home studio in January of this year, including changes to the original arrangements wherever deemed necessary. This should make the album a noteworthy item even for those who managed to pick up one of a mere 120 copies when “Skin turns to Glass” saw the light in 2003.
The previous version of “Skin turns to Glass” consisted of three tracks clocking in at a total of 45 minutes. The new edit will probably not differ from this all that much, but, as Aidan Baker pointed out, sound even more edgey: “We tried for a bit of a rawer, rougher production so that tracks have a bit more of a live, unpolished feel. There is still lots of layering, as on our other records, but the sound is not quite as soft and fuzzy as some of our other releases.” These claims are supported by a pre-release snippet from “Sandskin”, which now has a gargantuan, morbid and progressive feel to it.
Baker also revealed that the new Nadja CD on The End Records will come accompanied by a new, previously unavailable composition: “We maxed out the CD again with an ambient bonus track that will probably try people's patience...but the ending of that track might be a bit of a surprise..."
