us Jair-Rohm Parker Wells: Brotherly Love & Big World Poetry

Jair Rohm Parker Wells and his Trio will perform live in Stockholm this Saturday at the Glenn Miller Cafe. Starting at 20:30, the set will feature pieces from their recent digital release on Ayler Records, “Brotherly Love in Philadelphia”. Consisting of Wells, Philly’s enigmatic Sax player, Flutist and Street Poet Elliott Levin and and local Drummer Peeter Uuskyla (currently promoting his noteworthy release with Peter Brötzmann), the trio has found a distinct language of its own, with soft Flute melodies and urban lyrics penetrating the spine of stoic grooves (on gentle Jazz-juggernaut “Sultry Ultra-Violated-Violet”), free-floating tactile interchanges (“Persuasive Planning”) or borderless beat-orgies between funk, space-rock and jack-in-all-trades improvisations (13-minute “Big Bertha”). As you might have guessed from its title, the album was recorded in Philadelphia, at the Paul Green School of Rock, PA on February 16, 2008 to be more precise. Parker Wells described the concert as “spirited improvisations by three of the idiom's finest”, warning all doubters: “Be there or be somewhere not happening.”

While the Jair Rohm Parker Wells Trio is quickly winning over Jazz fans, Wells is simultaneously nurturing his second baby, a duo with Spoken Word artist Cyndi Dawson. Here, he provides atmospheric tracks for Dawson’s lyrics, merging the best of their respective disciplines into an intoxicating cocktail. At times smooth and sexy, at others uptight and decided, this is aural poetry for the “Big World” Dawson delineates in the crunching future vision of the upcoming underground hit by the same name (mark these words).

The duo has been garnering a lot of attention on the spoken word scene and beyond, aiming to take their music on the road as soon possible: “The past few weeks have brought a lot of exciting news for us! Jair-Rohm is already over in Europe on tour to promote some projects of his own, and it has been going quite well! While he is there he is scoping out some venues interested in having us over sometime in late September/early October”, Dawson revealed, “We are currently working on an event that would also include the lovely Anna Savage! Other spoken word artists may also join in.”

If you’re interested in either project: The “Brotherly Love in Philadelphia”.album is available for free streaming from the site of Ayler Records, while new tracks for the spoken word collaboration have ben uploaded to their MySpace profile.
