There's one thing which you've got to hand to some of the artists and label bosses in the industrial and experimental sector: There not in it for the money! One of the best examples comes from Norway, with a new release by the small but superb outfit TibProd.
Their most recent project must have cost them an incredible amount of time, dedication and nerves, but now it is here, the result could hardly be any better. "Catzenjammer" (meaning something like "weeping cats" or crapulence/hangover) is a four-CD compilation encompassing the incredible amount of more than 60 artists from genres such as experimental, abstract electronics and noise. Behind this affluent box of goodies is Jan-M Iversen, himself a musician at the edge of modern music. His different productions for both his own label and others, have made him a name to watch (and listen to!), and put him in a position to make this a success story. This has nothing to do with being "up to date" or "pushing limits" or even trying to establish a "representative group" or a "trend". It's just some great music by artists which you're not likely to find in your local newspaper. With a single CD selling at 6 Euros and the complete series at 20, there's not a single reason we could think of to leave this remaining on the shelf.
Iversen himself has had varying success with his own releases, his latest CD "Como Jogar+Caligula" was to be shifted by friendly outfit Yousn, which closed its doors just a few weeks after the disc's release date. Still, new albums are on their way, among them a poignant and to-the-point collection of tracks on einzeleinheit.
There's three things that are certain about that latter release: It will not bring a total breakthrough, it will be affordable and all about the music, not the money. Not the worst combination in the world, really.
