Even though Science Fiction cinema enjoyed an international commercial return over the past decade, few films could match the ambitious concepts and seminal visual quality of the select genre-classics. Boyle’s flic clearly set the pace, openly referencing movies like “2001”, while firmly anchoring these allusions in the aesthetics and techniques of the 21st century. The soundtrack added to the images by presenting a melange of the present and the past and featuring works treading the fine line between pure texture and traditional composition.

Underworld have also shed some insight on the production process behind working with John Murphy, who shot to fame mainly because of his succesful work for Guy Ritchie movies “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch”: “’Jelly Blue’ was embellished by John Murphy to become ‘Mercury’. ‘Sad Guitar’ shows up in ‘Searle Finds the Crew of Icarus I’, ‘Trey's Fate’, and ‘Cassie Searches / Dead Corazón’. ‘Small Conker and Twix’ shows up in ‘Trey's Fate’. ‘Loads of Birds’ in ‘Distortions’. ‘To Heal’ in ‘Capa's Last Transmission Home’ and ‘Capa Meets the Sun’”, the band wrote in a MySpace bulletin.

As yet, there don’t seem to be any plans on a physical release of the “Sunshine” soundtrack.
