American concert organsiors and record label “Other Minds” have confirmed the roster for the 2008 version of their “Other Minds Festival”. The thirteenth year of the festival will feature experienced heavyweighst like Morton Subotnick and Frances-Marie Uitti (pictured) as well younger talents such as Keeril Makan. The stylistic spectrum will range from former Helmut Lachenmann-student Elena Kats-Chernin to the improvised New World Music-connotations of Wadada Leo Smith. Further artists announced for the festivities are Dieter Schnebel, Michael Bach, Åke Parmerud and Dan Becker. Concerts will take place March 6-7-8, 2008 at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco. Dubbed "The premier new music festival on the West Coast." As well as “A Who’s Who of the avant-garde”, previous editions of the festival have included the likes of Phil Niblock, Markus Stockhausen, Fred Frith, Michael Nyman, Ned Rorem, Evelyn Glennie and many others.
“Other Minds” wil include three world premiere commissions as well as a world premiere performance of John Cage’s One13 – realised by Michael Bach on his BACH.bow, a curved bow enabling string performers to play all strings of their instrument simultaneously (featured on Michael Bach’s “The Art of the Curved Bow” on Mode Records). Leading up to each and every performance, Other Minds Artistic and Executive Director Charles Amirkhanian will invite the composer and players for a discussion of the work, turning the featival as a whole into an insightful look into the world of New Music.
Ticket Prices range from $25 to $35 per evening and there are still some available from the site of the JCCSF.
