No more Mr. Lazy
TobiasEven to some of his friends, the word best used to describe Manuel Göttsching is "laid-back". Which is definitely unfair, since it really only relates to the fact that the founding member of legendary 70s electronics band Ash Ra (which later turned into a solo project) had disappeared from the music business to concentrate on his film production company CV Films. After getting together with his old friends on a tour and with buddy Klaus Schulze on the ravingly received "In Blue" and "Friendship", Manuel is now back with full force. On March 25th, Zeitkratzer, a German Ensemble specialising in experimental music, performed an orchestral version of Göttschings "E2-E4", possibly the single-most influential piece of music of the last two decades (Kraftwerk fans please take heed!). This coincides with the 20th anniversary of the album, which will be celebrated in style: Every song that ever used a sample from the record will be presented as an mp3 on the Ashra Homepage! Some goodlooking t-shirts have also been printed for the occasion.
In further news, Göttsching will release two new CDs: "The haunted castle" will contain music from the motion picture as will "Die Mulde", which is furthermore said to feature a new, 30-minute composition from 2004. This will mark the first non-live music to be released since the year 2000.
And finally, the readers of Dutch magazine E-dition have decided that "Sunrain" (a track from the "New Age of Earth" abum) ranks number four on the list of best electronic compositions ever.
