Matthew Dear/False: 2007 arrives Matthew Dear, composer and producer of a solitary blend between pop, quirky electronica and detroit techno, is back with a new CD release on Richie Hawtin’s Minus label. “2007” (under his False moniker) is comprised of a special live set and is said to “define Dear's relationship with Minus”. To complete the disc, there will be a Vinyl bonanza with “Fed On Youth / Face The Rain”. Minus certainly seem pretty confident and satisfied with the album, as they describe it as “a work of such stunning intricacy, verve and substance that it will surely be in amongst the favourites when this year's highlights are assessed.”
“2007” comes only a month after Matthew Dear finally came back under his own name with “Asa Breed” on his own Ghostly International imprint – the eagerly awaited follow-up to his 2004 work “Backstroke” and a CD which Dear himself called “long overdue”. That one was already introduced as his most accesible effort yet, and the comeback of False goes down a similar path: According to Minus,” it strikes the perfect balance between abstract experimentation and full on techno nirvana without ever breaking stride or losing focus”. Check the Minus website as well as Ghostly International for first soundclips.
Matthew Dear has been hailed “North America's brightest new electronic talent” in the past.
