Martin Williams: All Day Every Day at Resonance FM
Tobias
Resonance FM regular Martin Williams is starting a new series of programes at the London-based contemporary music radio station. “All Day Everyday” will deal with “the mundane and the miraculous” according to Williams and feature examples of everyday beauty and banality in the work of a select group of artists. Musically, the series focusses on collaged field recordings with an inclination to turn into extraordinary radio plays, with composers representing the cream of the crop of the field recording scene: Murmur, Brandon LaBelle, Aaron Ximm and Yannick Dauby (among others) will feature in future editions of the program. With the first editions looking promising indeed, Martin Williams’ invitation looks almost like an understatement in this regard: “If you’re close to a radio (or a computer) at 5:45pm on Wednesdays for the next few months, you could do worse than tuning in All Day Everyday”.
Each of “All Day Every Day”’s first couple of programs has a distinct theme. Dallas Simpson opens proceedings with “a binaural evocation of the cycling of water in our environment”, Julia Lee Barclay catches the mood inside the Tricorn Centre in Portsmouth just days before it was demolished, eliminating its performance spaces for the local punkscene and Eric la Casa presents “De la dilatation du paysage”, a sound project with Michaele-Andrea Schatt, capturing both of their vocals recorded during painting sessions at Schatt’s house.
Host Martin Williams will also present some of his own work in “All Day Every Day”. March 26th will see the premiere of “A Walk Down Consulado”. “Consulado is one of the main residential thoroughfares in the district of Central Havana in Cuba”, Williams explained, “It’s part of a grid of narrow streets whose songbirds, kerbside congregations and constant strains of music give the impression of everyday life being lived out of doors, on the street.”
“All Day Every Day” is the fourth series Martin Williams has produced for Resonance FM, following in the footsteps of “Unknown Country”, “Hay for the Horses” and “No Place Like Home”.
