klassik.popkomm
TobiasAt the beginning it was just an idea: If the pop scene can offer free Internet services with regularly updated information, why can't the Classical World? Matthias Brixel (who was later joined by Felix Hilse) set up klassik.com as the first real classical WebZine on the German market in 1995 - and had an instant hit. The mix of news items, reviews and small advertisements for instruments was neither spectacular nor revolutionary, but just what the people wanted. The team quickly assembled a staff of qualified writers around them and made a reputation for themselves as a reliable and competent media partner. Now, klassik.com has around 180.000 visits a month and 30.000 recipients of their newsletter - impressive numbers even by international standards.
But things are getting better: Both founders have always been active in Web Programming and their joint company emusici offers musicians services such as homepage designs. The Popkomm, one of the world's biggest trade fairs on (popular) music has taken the open-minded step to introduce the new world of Classical music to their visitors and klassik.com and emusic are their partners in crime. Which means that a young audience can expand their horizon and find out what Beethoven and Bytes have in common.
