us Balmorhea: Leave Austin for a tour through the West

Acoustic chamber band Balmorhea have decided to hit the road again and leave Austin for a tour through the “West”.For the occasion, the duo, supported live by up to six musicians playing anything from upright bass to cello, will join forces with their friends, city- and labelmates BEXAR BEXAR, as well as the Tiny Vipers on six dates. The tour ends a relatively long hiatus from concert performances for Balmorhea, who had declared as recently as in March that they would not enter into concert mode again before late Summer, instead focussing on building relations with their fans through their frequently updated homepage:: “We aren’t going to be playing any shows except the fusebox fest, which is listed here.Also, we are going to be doing routine updates every couple of weeks to keep things interesting.”, Balmorhea blogged at MySpace, later also having to cancel their appearance at the Fusebox Fest. Since then, some new material has surfaced, allowing for a glimpse at what the band are currently working on.

After Balmorhea’s first, eponymous record raked in positive reviews everywhere, the duo signed a contract with Austin-based Western Vinyl, a record company whose eclecticism and strong international ties make them a perfect match. Since then, Balmorhea have secured excellent reviews for the follow-up “Rivers Arms” in some of the major American music publications, including rave mentions in Pitchfork Media and the All Music Guide.
