Voces8: 'Evensong' makes surprise bid for Christmas chart success

Since claiming top spot at the International Concours in Garizia, British vocal ensemble Voces8 has generally been regarded as one of the few groups capable of effortlessly bridging the gap between Jazz and Classical music as wel as between shameless entertainment and high technical proficiency. With the release of „Evensong“, the young formation now extends their stylistic reach even beyond the few remaining borders they have set for themselves. A collaboration with legendary hit tandem Howard and Blackley, the track unites classic film music, pop and mesmerising choral arrangements in an unexpected bid to score a completely suprising Christmas chart success. Harking back to the ever-popular theme song to former BBC series „Miss Marple“, „Evensong“ kindles a waming heart fire of nostalgia further intensified by classic Rock n Roll-like ornamentations and entirely new lyrics written from scratch: „The song tells the tale of a sophisticated teenage girl’s attempt to lure a younger chorister away from his choral duties to the bright lights and temptations of the big city“, according to Voces8, who met Howard and Blackley at a charity event, where mutual compliments lead to a studio meeting which in turn sparked „Evensong“.
