Mark-Anthony Turnage remains one of the most prolific composers. Still, our
first story features very little active engagement from his side: The
National Portrait Gallery in London has only just opened a new exhibition
featuring work by brilliant photographer Derry Moore. Among the many
pictures displayed are portraits of Iris Murdoch, Alan Bennett, Rudolph
Nureyev and a specially commissioned work by Mark-Anthony. The exhibit will
be opned to the public until September 25th.
Secondly, "Etudes and Elegies", Turnage's orchestral tryptich, in a recording by the Orchestre Symphonique de la Monnaie and conducted by Kazushi Ono, will be released by Warner Classics. The CD, which furthermore features pieces by Wolfgang Rihm, has already received rave reviews.
And finally, Marks double percussion concerto "Fractures Lines"will travel all the way to Sweden on a tour by the Malmö Symphony Orchestra under Christoph König - the piece is on the programme for five nights.
