Tripple Accent

Belgian label accent sure have got their priorities straight: Their Webpage may look like it originates from the very first days of the Internet and their repertoire and artists may not win first prize when it comes to being "hip" or "funky", but their catalogue remains as vibrant as ever and with three new releases in this month alone, they remain one of the leading forces in the early music department.

Take the new CD by the Ensemble Daedalus, for example. Founded in 1984, this group of musicans dedicated to Original Practise has constantly been reinventing itself under the leadership of Roberto Festa. Critics have been full of praise for their albums, but their latest effort could well earn them a similar reception among a broad audience. "Delizie Napolitatane" sees them team up with local hero Luciano Catapano for a program of 16th Century love songs from Napoli. Full of passion and power, this is one of the releases that will keep you warm inside as things get cold outside.
"La Veloutee", meanwhile, is dedicated to one of the earliest composers of pieces for flute and harpsichord: Joseph Bodin de Boismortier. Before Bach even got started on his, this Frenchman had already established a name for himself with sonatas, which were aimed less at virtuoso professionals and more at well-practised amateurs. Accent calls these tracks "upscale entertainment" and in times when everything seems to be so very important and "universal", that seems like a pretty tempting proposition.
And finally, the Ensemble Daedalus returns with yet another disc set to capture your imagination. "Il Cantar Moderno" might seem a strange title for a record dedicated to chansons and tunes from 15th Century Italy, but who are we to complain when everything this album wants is "to bring joy to the people".

Does that seem a hard choice to make? Then don't make one! Save yourself thoset last three glasses of red wine (and that nasty hangover next morning) and buy them all!
