fr Pletnev: Classical Music is Dying

The Independent records outspoken interview

Composer, conductor and famous pianist Mikhail Pletnev has made some open and noteworthy comments in an interview with the English newspaper "The Independent". Western Classical music, he claimed, saying "Some things' time has gone." He encouraged young composers to use electronic means of expression and added that the impact of a well-recorded Rock-album was superior to that of a Classical piece. Merely withdrawing from his theses just a little bit at the very end, he claimed that maybe a genius composer could change the sombre state of affairs. And if you're wondering, why Platnev still hasn't started practising the guitar to form a Death-Metal band: "Me, i'm still in the Classical Frame." A very interesting read indeed.
