Mulm: Combines the talents of the Norwegian experimental undergroundThree masterminds of the Scandinavian experimental electronic underground have joined forces for a new Dark Ambient supergroup. „Mulm“ unites the talents of Ketil S (of Taphephobia), Hærleif (Northaunt) as well as Avsky's Erlend "Wacko" as well as Erik and will be presented by Swedish label Reverse Alignment. Mulm appears to fulfill the promises set by the latest albums of individual members, whose eclectic tastes and talents for creating deep moodscapes have set them apart from a genre all too often immersed in cliches and stereotypes. A barely three-minute long extract from the first track the trio created, „The Night Kills“, is soft and airy, filled with dreamy harmonics and weightlessly floating by like a pulsating nocturnal cloud. Outwardly, it draws more inspiration from classic drone music than the Dark Ambient scene and is filled by a similarly hopeful mood. Even though nothing concrete has been made public in terms of a full-length, the collaboration is certainly something to firmly keep an eye on over the next few months.
Mulm had been announcing itself as early as February of this year, when we talked to Ketil for an extensive Dark Ambient Special. „The funny thing is that me, Hærleif (Northaunt), Erlend and Erik (Avsky) have a side-project together now. So in a way we are playing together again now, for the first time since then. We don`t have a name yet, but we have found a unique sound. Some labels have already showed some interest in the project.“ These opaque visions have now materialised: „We decided to try to make another track“, the band said, „feeling pretty happy about it as well, so we are now going for a full cd. Our recording process is painfully slow, with sounds being sent back and forth, tiny details added one day, some guitar drone the other. Our vision with this band is still obscure, but slowly it seems to have found it's own "soul", as if no words was necessary, we speak as one."
While the process cintinues, Ketil S is already preparing for the release of his new Taphephobia album „Black City Skyline“, currently scheduled for an Autumn release on Reverse Alignment.
