Manuel Göttsching: Celebrates his 55th BirthdayManuel Göttsching, former head of the legendary band Ashra Tempel, has invited a string of illustrous guests to perform live with him on the occasion of his 55th birthday. Göttsching, responsible for compositions such as “E2-E4” and albums such as “Inventions for Electric Guitar” or, more recently, “Concert for Murnau”, has been acknowledged as a groundbreaking artist with a similar prestige in the world of electronic music in general, dance music in particular and even contemporary composition. Consequently, the guest list reads like a who’s who from three different worlds. Avantgarde guru Elliot Sharp, whose work between the chairs mirrors that of Manuel Göttsching in many respects, was happy to accept, as was House producer Joe Claussell, who remixed a couple of Manuel Göttsching’s tracks on their remarkable collaboration album from a year ago. And finally, hotshot band White will also board the plain from their native China to join the party, laurels from Sonic Youth and “Einstürzende Neubauten” mastermind Blixa Bargeld in their luggage. Further special guests will remain unnamed until the show actually commences, but the best part of the evening will surely consist in Manuel Göttsching entering the stage himself – in his only concert in his hometown of Berlin this entire year. The party is set for September 9th from 9pm to 9am at Berlin’s Watergate club.
Manuel Göttsching has also announced that his live album “Live at Mt. Fuji” will now be available for European buyers directly from his online shop. Previously, this collection of Manuel Göttsching classics presented in an entirely new outfit had been limited to the Japanese market, were it had been greeted with enthusiasm. Coming up in September, then, wil be the first DVD by Göttsching ever: “Manuel Goettsching and Kinga Kielczynska Wroclaw Live” presents the audiovisual extravaganza from last Summer, which saw the German pioneer work with Polish artist Kinga at the Era New Horizons festival. A trailer of that DVD can be downloaded here.
