Estonian conductor Kristjan Järvi is one of classical music's most popular
forces. Visitors to his website are treated to cool Jazz and smooth
animations, photo shoots tend to try to mold him into a Val Kilmer-like
actor-type and his concert programms have raised a few eyebrows already. So
will the schedule for the Tonkünstler Niederösterreich, for whom Järvi has
chosen a selection of modern and classical pieces: Franz Schmidt will be
played alongside Beethoven, french folklore meets Australian anthems and at
the core of it all will be a performance of the colourful "Mass" by
Bernstein, "one of the greatest works ever composed", according to Kristjan.
Famous soloists to grace the stage in Austria this year will be Baiba Skride
and Elena Bashkirova, among others.
