This year's focus was well chosen, because a decade and more after the end of the civil wars in its countries, this region and its people still have to deal with the aftermath of these disastrous events. The IWFF approached the situation in south-east Europe from the perspektive of female directors. They tell stories which are mostly untold otherwise. Their topics in post war Balkans are often migration, exile, suppressed identities or the impact of major ideological change on individuals' lives, very personal stories about how life works in the post war countries today and how people deal with it, and history which is not found in official annals. The directors approaches and perspectives on those topics were as diverse and numerous as the number of countries around the Balkans today .
One of this stories deals with filmmaking itself. „Does it hurt?“ asked director Aneta Lesnikovska in her no-budget-film.
