Eliot Gardiner realises humongous Cantata-project

After an unfriendly departure after twenty years at the DGG, John Eliot Gardiner has decided to do what most seem to be doing nowadays: Founding his own label. It carries the somewhat unlikely title Soli Deo Gloria (in fact the initials used by Bach to sign his cantatas) and will kick off by publishing the reason for his sacking: 51 (!) CDs with 198 (!!) cantatas. In times like these, that must seem like a most curageous plan. Even bolder is the choice of cover-motives: Portraits by photographer Steve McCurry bearing no obvious connection to the works. The CDs will be distributed by the German wing of Harmonia Mundi, the result of another acrimonious split.
All those who can prove they have listened to all the volumes of this series, please report to mouvement nouveau immediately and receive a special prize!
