de Frankfurt: Up! Munich: Up!

Alte Oper and Staatsoper have something to celebrate

Enough of those gloomy outlooks on classical music! Good news come from two of Germany's major Opera houses: The alte Oper Frankfurt (which is actually the new one, in case you're interested) has raised its seat-utilisation ratio from 80 to 85%, considerably upped its profit and received a prize for the best concert program of 2004/2005. The Staatsoper Munich meanwhile boasts a ratio of 93% and has managed to cut costs and raise earnings at the same time. Interesting news from the Munich Program of the next years: Possibly Anna Netrebko as Gilda and Anne Sofie von Otter in Orpheus & Eurydike.
And after 34 years, Peter Jonas will step down as artistic director after the next season. OK, that's bad news, but the only one you'll find in this article.
