News on Maazels take on Orwell

In a recent feature, we already told you Diana Damrau was to perform in Lorin Maazels new opera "1984", an adaption of Geore Orwells famous novel. Now the full cast list has been published. Maazel himself will take over conducting duties and the position of director has been awarded to the Canadian writer, actor, Peter-Gabriel collaborator and cinematographer Robert Lepage. The cast are as follows:

Winston: Simon Keenlyside
Julia: Nancy Gustafson
Gym Teacher/Old Hag: Diana Damrau
O'Brien: Richard Margison
Charrington: Graeme Danby
Symes: Lawrence Brownlee
Washerwoman: Mary Lloyd Davies
Parsons: Jeremy White

The three and a half hour long work will be world-premiered at London's Royal Opera on May third. Tickets are apparently still available.
