Audio Ashram: Walk the Middle Path to India
Tobias
Freshly founded Indian label Audio Ashram are preparing for the launch of their debut disc: “The Middle Path” by Saatvik Sequencers is said to offer a mixture between classical Indian music and contemporary electronica and between Western and Eastern influences. The record has been realised by a core duo of experienced producers as well as a cast of respected guests: Nikhel Kumar Mahajan and Hari Singh have invited Flutist Pundit Ajay Prasanna, Sarod-master Pundit Mukesh Sharma as well as Vocalist Pundit Bholenath Mishra into their studio in an effort of approximating the stately grace of Classical Indian compositions. Consequently, “The Middle Path” consists of three medium-length compositions arond the 18-minute mark, all written in the Raga-form and integrating virtuoso instrumental solos into a cosmos of warm atmospheres and effortlessly flowing beats. For both its main protagonists, the release will represent a landmark in their respective careers, which have already been blessed by collaborations with renowned compatriots like Amaan & Ayaan Ali Khan and Anoushka Shankar among others.
In a move of amazing generosity, Saatvik Sequencers are currently offering all three pieces in their entire length for free perusal at their MySpace site. Developping from spacey, introvert ambient openings, they gradually turn more open, friendly and lustrous, gradually picking up speed and rhythm. While the opening “Raga – Ahirbharavi” revolves around a core of solid darkness, culminating in a duel between hypnotic Flute lines and sharp Bass staccatos, the poppy melodics of the “Raga – Bhimpilasi” and the euphoric finale of the “Raga – Durga” are stearing the album into infinitely optimistic waters.
While the release date of “The Middle Path” has been put back from 30th June to an as yet unspecified date later this year, Audio Ashram are dedicated to taking their personal vision of India to audiences worldwide. As part of that plan, a solo album by Hari Singh is also scheduled for the next months.
