It will be Arvo Pärts 70th birthday on September 11th of this year. To
celebrate the occasion, the
Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir will
embark on its first tour with Paul Hillier - and its first in the UK since
1997. Both Hiller and the Choir have the depest respect for Pärts and should
be just the right pair of professionals to do the job properly. The
following cities are already confirmed for the tour: Manchester (May 24th),
Edinburgh (May 25th), Gateshead (May 26th), Cambridge (May 27th), Salisbury
(May 28th).
In further Pärt-related news, Robert Sher-Machherndl has just performed his
latest modern ballet Choreography
Vertigo with music by the composer.
And the
Heidelberger Frühling Musikfestival will feature four
Pärt-pieces. More on that soon.
All in all, it looks like this birthday will not go unnoticed.
