When the German Rolling Stone Magazine started their free-CD-with-every-issue policy a few years ago, it radically changed the press landscape. Unfortunately, not for the best in all cases: Many publications are now offering the music merely as an add-on or for even more prosaic purposes - highly respected "Fono Forum" offers companies the chance to use it as a very obvious marketing tool. Which has nothing to do with the original idea: Firstly, you can not really get to know music only by reading about it and secondly, some music just doesn't happen on TV or the public radio. It is therefore a good thing that some dedicated individuals are now changing things for the better and offering a double service: A database with lots of current reviews and a web radio station to listen to selected cuts afterwards.
Aural Pressure is one of the best of these sites. Their team, hailing from the UK, has a pleasant knack for short but poignant descriptions of the latest experimental cuts - and a capacity for filtering out the best bits for their radio show, which is updated on a monthly basis. Listeners can vote on their favourite tracks or dismiss disappointments. If there's something you like, you can go directly to that project's webpage by using the link in the according section. It's all there and it's free! Now, none of the PrintZines should be suprised if they soon don't have any readers left...
