Net Decks 24

The Beijing 'Egg'

After a lengthy hiatus of 1,5 years, „Net Decks“ is back with a slightly different formula: Musically, the focus is still on a blend of Electronica, Techno, various forms of experimental expression and Sound Art. From now on however, free-to-download or CC-licensed works from the net label scene will be presented alongside commercial offerings. After all, „net music“ is neither a genre nor a helpful classification and should not create unnecessary borders or divisions in a musical world already haunted by the spectre of genres, camps and insulated communities.

„Net Decks 24“ may smack slightly more of Techno than usual, but that is mostly down to the fact that we are exploring what happens when categories collide and artists extend their personal horizons here: Icelandic composer Olafur Arnalds goes Minimal, while Speedy J and Chris Liebing (pictured) pulverise their beats to Industrial debris. French producer Le Housetear, on the other hand, has sculpted an album whose contours are shaped by bizarre samples on the one hand and laid-back club couture on the other. Enjoy!

We'd also like to draw your attention to http://www.noumenonphenomenon.com/ a site run by Net Culture enthusiast Thomas Raukamp. Straying from the stereotypical concept of reviews, Thomas has created a service which recommends two delicious releases each day, divided into a "night" and a "day" section. Highly recommended to stay up to date on what's happening - and to discover some exquisite tunes while you're at it.
