Ever heard of Microlingus? Possibly not, even though chances are not that slim that you've actually heard them perform somewhere - this Italian ensemble has been prominently featured in several radio and TV broadcasts and has been touring Europe incessently since its inception in 1984. They seemed close to an international breakthrough when they recorded the soundtrack to the Oscar-winning movie "Meditarraneo" in 1991. Since then, things haven't exactly been quiet, but world domination has yet to come around. However things may turn out, they may now have found the perfect partner to help them realise their favourite projects: Zig Zag Territoires. Together with the French label, they recorded "Le jeu de Robin et Marion" last year and now they're back with "Landini", a CD praising the life and times of the Italian "Florentine style"-composer. Francesco Landini lived in the 14th century and was regarded the principal and most prolific composer of his times and remains a fascinating character at the borderline of a new age. Quite a lot of his works have never been documented on record so this latest addition to the catalogue is most welcome. Now just maybe, with a little luck, this could mark a turning point for both him and the ensemble presenting him to the world.
