In her latest online journal entry, Hilary Hahn has revealed why Henry Vieutemps Violin Concerto No 4 has such a special significance to her. First of all, there's the ecclectic music with its wild mood swings and quite unusual four movement structure. But even more importantly, the Concerto was one of the first pieces Hahn practised while taking up her studies with Mr. Brodsky. Brodsky himself was a student of Mr. Ysaye, who was in turn coached by Vieuxtemps. This personal background has made the piece even more appealing to the young Violinist, who has her mind set on playing the work as often as possible and hoped it would enter the standard repertoire quite soon.
Hahn also appears, somewhat surprsingly, on the new album of American Rock band And you will know us by the Trail of Dead. The experimental and eccentric outift invited Hilary to play on the Instrumental track "To Russia My Homeland" after meeting her at a Concert in Austin. Incidentally, Hahn's boyfriend turned out to be a huge fan of the group and that's where thing started to take up pace. The album has been out for quite a while now and already been praised extensively.
