Fräulein Anna

Netrebko to be an Austrian?

We bet you didn't expect this: Russia's favourite export (vodka following closely), Anna Netrebko, is apparently considering taking on the Austrian nationality!

Even though nothing's final, her manager Jeffrey Vanderveen mentioned to the press that this has been an issue for quite some time now and that he has encouraged her to do so for a long time. While one source explicitely states that no application has yet been filed, another claims the opposite - so procedures might already have been started. Whatever the state of affairs, we strongly suspect that the motivation has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that "Anna loves the country", but rather with a reduction of bureaucratic paperwork.

This aside, everything seems to working for the wondergirl of Opera. In what is probably the dullest and most boring interview of the last few months, she reveals that she's already fully booked for the next four years, so don't come knocking on her door with proposals. President Putin handed her an award for her acchievments in the field of science and the arts. And her latest CD, "Sempre Libera" has been nominated for an "Amadeus" in the category of best Vocal performance.

Netrebko is also an active member of the second annual campaign for breast cancer prevention, organised by fashion label Kathleen Madden. Amidst a group of other artists and models, she is encouraging women to take tests early to find out about the illness as soon as possible - an effort she personally supports, as her mother was killed by breast cancer.

Be it as a Russian or an Austrian, Anna Netrebko will continue to keep head's ringing.
