From the official program notes: The Wallfisch Band is an exciting new international Baroque string ensemble founded by violinist Elizabeth Wallfisch, in which handpicked, gifted young players perform alongside distinguished older colleagues. Here they present a tapestry of music reflecting warlike and peaceful concerns, ranging from Biber’s picturesque representations of a battleground, a rustic wedding feast and a visit from a guardian angel, to Schmelzer’s musical fencing school and lament for the passing of the Holy Roman Emperor. There is also Vivaldi’s dazzling ‘Grosso Mogul’ violin concerto, and two beautifully written vocal pieces by JS Bach’s most revered musical ancestor, Johann Christoph.
