it CD Feature: "Seicento Italiano"

Clear and without any excessive attitudes or affectations

On this new ARTS-release, the Accademia Bizantina under Ottavio Dantone plays Italian music from the 17th century. The collection "Seicento Italiano" encompasses 10 composers on one single disc – most of them more or less well-known and representing the music of their time in style and form.

Dantone’s interpretation is marked by a cleanness and purity of tone. The simple reason for this can be traced back to the fact that it is not content in using the original’s economy in terms of sound and form as a mere basic guideline. Instead, it totally and utterly relies on it. This recording is clear and without any excessive attitudes or affectations, which could well have been added out of „trend-related considerations“. Most of all, however, it is pleasantly modest.

Hereby it serves a three-sided purpose: It impressively demonstrates, how simple, yet significant and entertaining the music of this transitional era can be.
