Bremen's music Bonanza

One of the most beautiful German cities is again hosting one if its greatest festivals. On September, third, Bremen will be welcoming stars from the classical scene and stage a cleverly thought-out and spectacularly diverse program. Let's begin with the big names, as there are quite a few of them this year: Helene Grimaud will be making an appearance, as will Fazil Say, Roger Norrington, Anne Sofie von Otter, Ricardo Muti and Maria-Joao Pires. From the point of view of the young scene, Iveta Apkalna and Yo Kosuge are two of the players to watch, the latter also receiving a special subsidy by German broadcaster Deutschlandfunk. What makes the Musikfest so especially appealing is its openness to Non-Classical sounds: Goran Bregovic, a Half Serb, half Croatian composer of movie scores (and of Pop and Traditional music), will be presenting his modern oratorium "My heart has become tolerant" - a musical stage, where Christianity, Islam and Jewry will meet.
Finally, for all those who are new to the festival, the traditional "Big Night Music" is the main attraction. On the opening day, seven locations will each present three concerts between 19:30 and 22:30 - and visitors are free to switch between them. Which goes to show, that Bremen might be one of Germany's most traditional cities, but there's definitely no lack of movement.
